End of Summer Update

We at The Wolfscastle are very happy to have weathered the storm following the pandemic and lock down.  We are thankful that all of our regulars have returned, thus opening to a very busy summer.  Both the restaurant and the accommodation have been fully occupied throughout August.  The Government’s “eat out to help out” scheme has also been extremely popular and has seen the restaurant full on each of the discounted days.

Our Spa has also reopened and again the therapists have worked extremely hard to ensure a clean and safe environment for every guest.  The full treatment range is now bookable, apart from the sauna pod, which we are hoping will open again soon. Since reopening, the hotel has received excellent feedback from our guests, who have commented on how safe the staff have made them feel in these uncertain times.

Upgrade to our star rating by AA

Recently the AA inspected the Hotel and gave us a very positive review – confirming our 2 rosettes and awarding us 4 star – whilst we are 4 star with Visit Wales, we have been for many years 3 star with the AA.

They are also considering giving us a breakfast award, all these things give myself and my staff a buzz and it is good to see all the hard work we put in, being recognized. The inspector tried our scallop dish as a starter and the duo of duck as a main course – she really enjoyed both.

Welcoming a new member of the team

We would like to welcome Tom Bennett to the Wolfscastle team.  Tom has a wealth of experience working in high-quality establishments abroad and has worked intermittently for us over the past 14 years and has recently returned as our new head chef.

He is passionate about using local produce in all of our dishes.  Regular customers may have noticed that our fish pie has changed from king prawns and cod to locally caught lobster, crab and a white fish of the day.

Tom is also a keen forager and regularly uses freshly picked ingredients to further enhance our dishes.  With winter soon upon us, our menu will evolve with the season, so our culinary team will soon be inventing new dishes, for me, this is the most exciting time for caterers.

New addition to the hotel

During lockdown, we managed to finish the new addition to the hotel, our outside bar, which is all under cover, courtesy of a 5 metre square umbrella, complete with heating and lighting. We will be using this area as a cocktail, champagne and wine bar as an extra for brides and grooms. We hope, also, in the very near future to build a pizza oven next to the bar which is exciting the kitchen brigade!

Looking ahead

Heading towards Christmas, we are looking forward to welcoming the return of both weddings and Christmas celebrations at the Wolfscastle.  Unfortunately, we are unsure at this moment how the Christmas celebrations will look, however, rest assured we will keep you all updated as soon as we have received the new guidelines.  Christmas Day lunch is always a favourite among our guests, and we are of course excited for another special day this year.

Keep an eye on our new website for this year’s menu. We are hoping to have another fantastic night on New Year’s Eve and to employ the services of the very talented Sara Jones as Tina Turner, who you may remember came to us a short time ago and was a huge hit, hence we have asked her to return this year.

A big thank-you

Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the staff for all their hard work during these challenging times.  They have managed to adapt to the new regulations quickly and have all ensured that the reopening has gone smoothly.
