As we roll towards the 50th year of the existence of Wolfscastle Country Hotel – Allt yr Afon, I wonder where all that time as gone and reflect on how the hotel has evolved; starting with 7 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms in 1976, I then built two Squash courts in 1978, more bedrooms, a banqueting suite in 1985, culminating in new kitchens, reception area, 20 bedrooms, a boutique spa and extensions after extensions.
Our, once little hotel in the heart of Pembrokeshire has grown so much that the downstairs of the original house is now encompassed completely by the new building work.
Moving further through 2025, I wanted to share with you some of the wonderful events and celebrations that we’d like to invite you to enjoy with us this Spring
Easter Sunday is on the 20th April this year when traditionally families gather round and come out for a slap-up lunch – please look at our menu online, a great time to reconnect with family and friends.
We’re also running a most delicious special Easter Afternoon Tea between April 12th – 27th.
On May 1st we are holding a Corporate Day where local Pembrokeshire businesses will be encouraged to come along to network with each other and enjoy canapes and drinks, free of charge, see what the hotel has to offer and see how we can help you to enhance your business. We have so many spaces available for businesses to use and would love to.
At Wolfscastle, this year, we are also going to celebrate Father’s Day on the 15th June. Mothering Sunday always attracts a huge following, but Father’s Day is not-so-well-supported. So we are planning to offer a Gentlemen’s Afternoon Tea, as well as our traditional Sunday roasts. More will be revealed in the next few weeks.
A big one on the calendar is Ladies Day, our annual charity event which was started by Nicky Gerson in memory of her mother, Judy Kelly, who was taken from us some 20 years ago. Money raised goes towards the Paul Sartori Foundation and the Amani Children’s Home in Tanzania. At the Wolfscastle Hotel, we offer a full Afternoon Tea, a glass of Pimms on arrival, a raffle with brilliant prizes and entertainment by the Morgan and Melville Duo – All happening on Sunday, July 6th. So, ladies, put this date in your diary, give your glad rags a good shake, dress like you’re going to Ascot and come and have a great, fun day out.
In other Wolfscastle Hotel news, Mitchel, our young catering student who is helping us in front of house has recently won an award for Best Restaurant Server in Wales a real accolade indeed along-side which he created an award-winning cocktail – when next in do come and try it, he’s a star in the making.
As we go into Spring, Seb, our Head Chef, with his recent 3 Rosette award from the AA, has changed some parts of our Brasserie menu and created fabulous new dishes on the Fine Dining menu, so please come and experience them. In our intimate Fine Dining restaurant, the Allt Yr Afon, we are serving a wine pairing menu alongside his dishes, so we’re inviting you to come and indulge. After an amazing evening of fine dining, if you also need a bedroom too, just speak to us and I’m sure we can make you an offer you can’t refuse!
As the Pembrokeshire Summer approaches, we’re hopeful that the weather will go from strength to strength and Freddie, our show Cocker, and myself can rediscover the amazing beaches, quiet coves, coastal walks and rolling Welsh hills of our beautiful county and thank God we are still alive to enjoy the sheer beauty around us.
