As Christmas time descends on us and Father Christmas has loaded up his sleigh, it is time to reflect on our achievements over the past 12 months. Wolfscastle Country Hotel has always been at the forefront of food in Pembrokeshire. We strive to always offer gourmet food and local comfort food at a competitive price and it is good that we have been recognised and again retained our 2 rosette status with the AA. Last year we won the Welsh hospitality award for the most romantic Hotel and earlier this year we won the Pembrokeshire Business award for best hospitality and food, our motto is to always offer first class food, well served in a convivial atmosphere and it is so good to see that it has been recognised and accoladed. The final award this year, that we received most recently, was for the best dog friendly hotel in Pembrokeshire and myself and Freddie our golden cocker spaniel were delighted to receive it. Pembrokeshire is a great walking county for dogs, whether it be along the 200 miles of coastline, through the local woods or along miles & miles of sandy bays and beaches, a haven for dogs.
Finally, on the subject of accolades the village of Wolfs Castle has again won the village in bloom annual competition, all credit to the inhabitants of the village who take great pride in their gardens and the environment.
Our Spa has only recently been completed and gradually is becoming known by people who want an intimate spa experience, a weekend or midweek getaway, or simply by people who want to be pampered by one of our three therapists.
As remembrance Sunday passes and I explain to my 10 & 8 year old the meaning of this momentous occasion, telling them stories of my grandfather and great uncle in the 1st world war and my uncle, father & mother in the 1939-1945 world war it makes one realise what our forebears did for us in creating a stable environment for us to enjoy the festive season that is nearly upon us.
At this time, we host several Christmas parties which are very entertaining involving live music and good food. On Christmas day we cater for over 100 people enjoying a six course Christmas lunch and on New Years eve we have a similar number eating fine food and being entertained by Frank Webb singing swing and popular tunes culminating in a disco for all ages to welcome in the New Year.
I feel that the Wolfscastle Country Hotel or Allt Yr Afon as we are locally known has never been in a stronger position in my 42 years of ownership to offer our guests a truly memorable experience, whether it be for spa weekends, gourmet nights and retro food evening coming up in the new year along with our Michael Bublé tribute evening (James Williams who has been booked to perform in Las Vegas next year) and our Tom Jones tribute soirée. All credit to our front of house management team Rosie, Lee, Mike & Nathen and our superb kitchen brigade headed by Keith & Steve – Steve is celebrating working with me for over 30 years if celebrating is the right word.
